The best advice is regular practice.
Short and frequent - 10 to 15 minutes practice time is fine.
Everyday if possible the ideal but not always practical.
So try to aim on average 4 to 5 times a week if possible.
Often a regular time slot in the day for practice helps.
A reasonably quiet room aids concentration during practice
Encouragement from parents - perhaps reading through with them the notes made during the lesson and sometimes being there to see them through the practice session.
Maybe listening to something they have practiced on their own is all that is needed to motivate and encourage progress in learning to play.
If something the student has been asked to practice just won't happen or improve then if that can be mentioned to me I can pick this up in the next lesson. I will endeavour to help her with further teaching on a difficult exercise or part of a piece of course.
If you would like to use the notebook to feedback to me that would be great too.
I provide a practice record sheet with the notebook for your use which might be another incentive together with sticker rewards during lessons for person to person lessons
On-line students have the same opportunities - lesson notes sent by email to the student/parent
